Digital Dietitians

About this Session:

Our food pyramid days are behind us. Digital nutrition apps are excelling in personalized meal planning, real-time dietary coaching, and insurance-covered food prescriptions. These “digital dietitians” are evolving past calorie-counting apps into sophisticated platforms that analyze your biomarkers, understand your cultural and dietary preferences, take into account any chronic conditions or food allergies, and deliver sustainable nutrition guidance that sticks. The food-as-medicine movement is also benefiting from this tech upgrade, with companies securing insurance for "medically tailored meals," making preventive nutrition care as routine as your annual physical, and possibly more effective. But can an algorithm truly replace the human touch of a registered dietitian who knows you can’t resist your grandma’s meatballs, or are we about to witness the democratization of nutrition care that finally makes healthy eating accessible to everyone regardless of their zip code or insurance plan? The answer may lie in the middle.
