Building Up the Nursing Workforce

About this Session:

The pandemic resulted in over 100,000 US nurses leaving, the largest single year decline in 4 decades. Recently, nurses in the US and UK went to the bargaining table over the serious shortage of healthcare workers. This shortage crisis is bleeding forward into 2023 for reasons beyond pay. Nurses work in the trenches, multitasking often over long shifts while documenting the details, a task requiring 22-46% of the nurses? time. Many health systems turn to traveling nurses only to experience the ramp-up required when they don?t know the systems, processes, or hospital policies. This panel of seasoned CHIME nurses and health IT executives will discuss demands for nurses in IT roles to connect IT design with nursing and address possible new paradigms for nursing teams, analytics, scheduling, and staffing.
