Social determinants of health continue to shape the quality and accessibility of care for patients from diverse socio-economic backgrounds especially within underserved communities. By providing a more holistic picture of patients' living conditions, socioeconomic challenges, and environmental factors, SDOH enables clinicians to develop more culturally competent care strategies that respect and address the unique cultural contexts of each patient. Approaching each interaction with a deeper understanding of a patient’s specific background allows healthcare providers to communicate more effectively and design treatment plans that align with patients' lived experiences. While technology can play an important role in analyzing the impacts of SDOH and creating pathways to improve access to essential resources, it is not enough on its own. To truly bridge the gaps in healthcare delivery, we must implement strategic programs focused on providing culturally competent care. Now is the time to prioritize innovation that equips clinicians with the tools and knowledge to address the unique needs of every patient, ensuring all individuals receive the culturally competent care they deserve.
