This week, we spoke to Alexander Klein, the group leader of digital Health, personalised healthcare, and patient access global medical affairs at Roche.

What’s your main motivator to work in oncology digital health?

No other disease is so complex, personal, and anxious like cancer. It will affect every one of us directly or indirectly in the future.

So my main motivator for working in digital health oncology is to develop innovative solutions that can help cure cancer through the convergence of science, technology, and healthcare.

What are the main principles that inform what you do?

Explore the unknown. Learn what works. Share the outcomes.

Where in the cancer patient journey do you see the greatest use for digital technology?

Early detection and screening, digital biomarker for risk stratification, disease management at the point of treatment and beyond.

Is there a company or product that you think provides a strong example of using digital technology to meaningfully address the needs of cancer patients?

There are so many great emerging technologies and products popping up every day. One particular technology I feel has the biggest impact on patient outcomes and society is early detection and screening technology that can help to accelerate time to treatment and, in the ideal case, even prevent cancer.
