Abridge Expands Clinical Intelligence AI Across 300+ Health Systems

Abridge is expanding its clinical intelligence agent across more than 300 partner health systems, allowing organizations to make AI-powered clinical decision support available to every clinician, including those who do not currently use the company's ambient documentation technology. The agent operates directly within existing electronic health record workflows or through connected mobile and web applications, giving clinicians access to patient-specific insights without turning to consumer AI tools or separate applications.

The platform combines longitudinal patient information with evidence from trusted medical sources to provide context-aware clinical support at the point of care. Capabilities include pre-visit chart summaries that highlight important changes, automatically populated medical calculators and evidence-grounded answers drawing from sources such as The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, the American Diabetes Association and UpToDate. Clinicians can also use the agent to generate referral letters, handoff summaries and other downstream clinical documentation.

Abridge says the enterprise deployment also addresses growing concerns around "shadow AI," where clinicians use unapproved consumer chatbots or search tools for medical questions. Because the intelligence agent operates through health systems' existing security, governance and EHR infrastructure, organizations can provide clinicians with AI assistance while maintaining established controls around protected health information and clinical data. Physicians can also earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit for eligible point-of-care learning activities conducted through the platform.

Adoption of the clinical decision support capabilities has accelerated across Abridge's network. The company reports that monthly active users now represent more than half of eligible clinicians at participating health systems, while the average number of queries per clinician has tripled over the past two months. At UPMC, more than 60% of active users reportedly adopted the intelligence agent organically without dedicated training initiatives.

The expansion marks another step in Abridge's evolution from an ambient documentation company into a broader clinical intelligence platform. By connecting patient charts, medical evidence and workflow automation within a single enterprise AI layer, the company aims to support clinical decision-making before, during and after patient encounters while giving health systems greater control over how clinicians use generative AI.
