Advent International Acquires PatientPoint to Expand Patient Engagement Platform

Boston-based private equity firm Advent International has announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire PatientPoint, the Ohio-based patient engagement platform company, from an investor group led by L Catterton and Littlejohn & Co. The transaction, expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025 subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions, marks a significant development in the patient engagement technology sector.

PatientPoint operates engagement platforms and applications that connect providers and patients through digital health content delivered via screens in clinical settings. The company has built a substantial presence in the healthcare ecosystem, reaching a nationwide network of 30,000 physician offices and 125,000 providers. Beyond patient-facing content, PatientPoint collaborates with life sciences companies to provide advertising opportunities across multiple touchpoints including check-in portals, patient portals, waiting room screens, and healthcare staff areas.

The acquisition comes as PatientPoint continues to expand its strategic partnerships and capabilities. The company's existing management team will remain in place to lead operations, with additional support from Advent advisors. This continuity ensures stability while leveraging Advent's resources for future growth initiatives.

"We're excited to help the company provide increasingly targeted messaging about treatment options and advanced therapies, offering sponsors and partners more efficient, personalized, and measurable campaigns," Chris Comenos, director at Advent, said in a statement. "Given the platform's position in a patient's healthcare journey, we also believe it has strong potential to deliver new, innovative solutions that will drive beneficial health outcomes over time."

PatientPoint has demonstrated consistent growth through strategic partnerships and mergers. Last year, the company partnered with MyHealthTeam, a social network company, enabling patients at more than 35,000 PatientPoint locations to connect with others facing similar chronic health conditions. In 2021, PatientPoint merged with Outcome Health to create PatientPoint Health Technologies, enhancing patient-clinician communications capabilities. The company also collaborated with the American Medical Association in 2019 to support type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease management through AMA-developed chronic disease education content distributed via PatientPoint's digital platform.

The acquisition by Advent International represents the latest chapter in PatientPoint's evolution, following previous funding rounds including a $140 million investment from Searchlight Capital Partners and Silver Point Capital in 2017 to scale its point-of-care networks.
