Apple has introduced a redesigned Health app centered on Apple Intelligence, alongside expanded health capabilities for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. The updates include longevity analysis, personalized health insights, movement assessments, laboratory testing and a daily readiness score.
The Health app will launch later this year in US English on compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled devices. A new Longevity tab will calculate a “health age,” comparing a user’s health metrics with their chronological age. The calculation incorporates Apple Watch measurements such as resting heart rate, sleep, VO2 max and heart-rate variability (HRV), alongside available blood-test information.
Using information from Apple devices, clinical health records and compatible third-party services, the app will assess seven areas: heart health, sleep, mental well-being, movement health, metabolic health, hearing and nutrition.
A separate Insights tab will use Apple Intelligence to generate health summaries throughout the day across areas including vitals, fitness, heart health, sleep and cycle tracking. Personalized recommendations, educational articles and videos from Apple Health clinical experts will also be provided.
Apple is additionally introducing on-device movement assessments using vision-based AI and heart-rate information. Tests will evaluate strength, balance, flexibility, movement mechanics and VO2 max. Apple says video used during assessments is never recorded, stored or shared.
Through a partnership with Quest Diagnostics, US users will be able to purchase a $119 laboratory panel directly through the Health app. The panel covers more than 50 biomarkers, with testing conducted at Quest Diagnostics locations and results accessible through Health.
For Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 users, a readiness score from zero to 10 will combine sleep, activity, vitals and training-load data. Users will receive one of four recommendations: recover, pace yourself, ready or go for it.
The Series 12’s Health Sensing System will also measure heart rate every five seconds and HRV up to 24 times more frequently. Apple has separated HRV into recovery and overall measures, while new daytime vitals enable comparisons with overnight measurements.
