AWS, Hoppr launch model to accelerate generative AI tools in medical imaging

AI startup Hoppr has joined forces with AWS to introduce Grace, a cutting-edge foundation model designed to expedite the development of generative AI solutions in the realm of medical imaging. Unveiled at the RSNA 2023 conference in Chicago, Grace represents a B2B model aimed at empowering application developers to efficiently construct advanced AI solutions for medical images. Named in honour of the renowned computer scientist Grace Hopper, the model is trained on an extensive dataset, enabling it to engage in "image-to-image and text-to-image learning" across diverse medical imaging modalities.

Grace's capabilities extend to providing diagnostic, clinical, and operational insights derived from medical imaging data. For instance, it can recommend additional diagnostic imaging at the point of care, streamlining decision-making processes for healthcare professionals. Furthermore, the model facilitates interactive engagement with medical imaging studies, allowing practitioners to inquire about findings, alternative imaging views, treatment protocols, and recommended surgical interventions.

Accessible via an API service, Grace is positioned for integration by application developers, with the overarching goal of enhancing meaningful engagement with medical images among radiologists and healthcare staff. Notably, Hoppr has exclusively built Grace on AWS using Amazon SageMaker, the machine learning platform renowned for its scalability, robust data storage capabilities, and a profound understanding of medical imaging intricacies.

In tandem with the Grace announcement, Hoppr revealed a significant "multi-million dollar investment" from Health2047, the venture studio affiliated with the American Medical Association. This substantial investment underlines the growing confidence and support for Hoppr's endeavours in leveraging AI to advance healthcare solutions, particularly in the dynamic field of medical imaging.

As Hoppr continues to pioneer AI applications in healthcare, this collaboration with AWS and the strategic investment from Health2047 positions Grace as a pivotal player in the ongoing evolution of AI-driven solutions within the medical imaging landscape.
