Catholic Health and GE HealthCare Form $500M Strategic Care Alliance to Modernize Imaging Infrastructure

Catholic Health and GE HealthCare have entered into a 10-year strategic partnership valued at approximately $500 million to modernize imaging and diagnostic services across Long Island. The agreement covers Catholic Health’s six acute care hospitals and 36 ambulatory sites, introducing more than 1,300 pieces of medical technology focused on cardiology, oncology, neurology, and women’s health. Around half of the planned equipment installations are scheduled for completion within the first three years, reducing the implementation timelines often associated with large-scale technology replacement programs.

A central component of the initiative is GE HealthCare’s Imaging 360 platform, a cloud-based radiology operations solution designed to standardize workflows across multiple locations. The platform provides centralized operational insights, supports remote scanning capabilities, reduces administrative workload, and helps improve consistency across imaging services.

The technology deployment also incorporates AI-enabled imaging capabilities within new CT, MR, and PET systems. Catholic Health expects these tools to support faster diagnostic workflows and clinical decision-making across several service lines. Planned investments include expanded cardiac imaging in outpatient settings, enhanced oncology imaging designed to shorten the interval between diagnosis and treatment planning, broader nuclear medicine capabilities at St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center® and Good Samaritan University Hospital, additional automated ultrasound systems for bedside care, and upgraded obstetric and maternal-fetal imaging technologies.

The collaboration extends beyond technology deployment through the inclusion of an embedded cardiovascular scientist who will work alongside Catholic Health clinicians. This role is intended to ensure that future software enhancements and equipment decisions are informed by clinical practice and patient care requirements.

The partnership also introduces a different commercial model based on unitary payments and performance accelerators rather than conventional capital purchasing. Catholic Health expects this structure to create predictable costs, generate capital savings, and allow additional investment in clinical programs and patient access. A comprehensive 10-year multivendor service agreement will further support equipment maintenance, lifecycle management, staff education, and operational uptime across more than 40 healthcare locations.
