Clee Medical Secures Seed Financing for Brain Surgery Vision Tech

Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering in Geneva has completed a seed funding round for its spin-off Clee Medical, a neurotechnology startup developing real-time imaging solutions for brain surgery. The round was led by High-Tech Gründerfonds, with additional backing from Zürcher Kantonalbank, FONGIT, Venture Kick and other investors. The company emerged in 2024 from the Wyss Center’s MICA research project, which focuses on minimally invasive brain access technologies.

Clee Medical’s core product, Neuro Access, combines optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging with surgical navigation to give neurosurgeons a high-resolution, real-time view of brain structures during procedures. This addresses a key limitation in current practice, where surgeons rely on pre-operative scans that can become inaccurate once the brain shifts during surgery. By providing live visualisation, the system helps identify critical structures such as blood vessels before they are reached, reducing the risk of complications and improving surgical precision.

Designed as a slim probe compatible with existing surgical tools, the technology integrates seamlessly into current workflows without requiring new techniques. The fresh funding will support further development, initial clinical studies in human patients and the regulatory steps needed to bring the device to market, positioning Clee Medical to advance safer, minimally invasive neurosurgery.
