Cubresa Installs First BrainPET Insert System at Lawson Health Research Institute

Cubresa, in collaboration with Lawson Health Research Institute, has successfully installed the world's first BrainPET Insert System at St. Joseph's Health Care London. This groundbreaking achievement introduces a removable PET scanner, specifically designed for PET/MRI brain imaging.

The Cubresa BrainPET is an investigational PET insert designed exclusively for the human brain imaging market. It can be retrofitted into existing 1.5T, 3T, and 7T MRI systems, allowing clinical sites to benefit from the advantages of simultaneous PET/MR imaging. The BrainPET Insert System is being developed to evaluate neurological diseases and disorders. BrainPET is an investigational device and is currently not available for commercial sale.

Dr. Jonathan Thiessen, an Imaging Scientist at Lawson Health Research Institute, expressed great enthusiasm about the arrival of the Cubresa BrainPET. By operating within their existing 3T MRI system, this head-only PET system promises to enhance brain imaging capabilities with superior image resolution. Dr. Thiessen anticipates that the high-resolution PET/MRI technology will significantly improve the differential diagnosis of dementia, facilitate better detection of epileptic foci, and advance our understanding of the ageing brain. Collaborating with Cubresa, they aim to push the boundaries of current technologies, explore new research avenues, and develop innovative clinical applications for this device. The installation of BrainPET solidifies Lawson and St. Joseph's position as pioneers in PET/MRI technology development and clinical research.

The Cubresa BrainPET serves as a diagnostic imaging research tool, facilitating the detection, localisation, and diagnosis of brain diseases and disorders, including neurological diseases and brain cancers.

Dr. James Schellenberg, Founder and CEO of Cubresa, expressed his pride in Lawson Health Research Institute becoming the first institution in their Foundational Client Program to have the BrainPET system installed. This milestone marks a significant achievement for Cubresa and an exciting advancement in brain imaging. Dr. Schellenberg looks forward to the continued collaboration with Lawson in their pursuit of cutting-edge brain research.
