Culina Health, a digital platform redefining clinical nutrition care, has announced the completion of a $7.9 million Series A funding round. This milestone, fueled by the company’s 117% year-over-year growth and proven clinical outcomes, brings its total capital raised to $20 million. Led by Healthworx, the innovation and investment arm of CareFirst, the funding reinforces Healthworx’s ongoing commitment to Culina Health, which became the first digital nutrition platform backed by a strategic payer in 2022.
Founded in 2020 by registered dietitians Vanessa Rissetto and Tamar Samuels, Culina Health is on a mission to make personalized nutrition care accessible and sustainable for all. Through a nationwide network of registered dietitians, the platform provides virtual, one-on-one consultations that prioritize scientific rigor, inclusivity, and seamless integration with healthcare providers. These services cater to diverse needs, including weight management, chronic disease prevention, and overall wellness, while bridging critical gaps in healthcare accessibility.
Culina Health’s evidence-based Culina Health Method™ delivers measurable outcomes, including the prevention of prediabetes progression in 100% of patients and significant reductions in A1c, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels. Beyond clinical results, the platform has demonstrated substantial economic impact, saving an average of $7,000 per patient annually and highlighting a potential $10.3 billion in healthcare cost savings at scale.
With over 10,000 patients served and more than 1,000 referring providers, Culina Health is rapidly setting new standards for digital nutrition care. Its success is underpinned by its commitment to culturally affirming, patient-centered solutions that address the unique needs of diverse populations.
This latest round of funding, supported by Rethink Impact, Collab Capital, Collide Capital, and others, positions Culina Health to expand its services, enhance support for dietitians, and invest in advanced AI platforms to improve care efficiency and outcomes. The company also plans to strengthen its leadership team to drive strategic growth.
Despite research indicating that 90% of Americans would benefit from seeing a dietitian, less than 0.02% have accessed this care. Co-founder Vanessa Rissetto emphasized the company’s transformative potential: “Nutrition is a vital function of long-term health, and registered dietitians should be at the forefront of providing this care…With the support of our investors and health plan partners, we are one step closer to making world-class nutrition care accessible to everyone”
Culina Health’s efforts are not only shaping the future of nutrition but also redefining its role as a cornerstone of comprehensive, sustainable healthcare solutions.
