Datavant has launched a new integration with ID.me to make it faster and more secure for patients to request and access their medical records. The integration embeds ID.me's digital identity verification directly into Datavant's Patient Request Tool, allowing healthcare organizations to verify patients electronically while reducing reliance on manual identity checks.
Datavant's Patient Request Tool already allows patients to request and receive medical records through a digital workflow. With ID.me integrated into the process, patients can verify their identity using reusable digital credentials rather than completing separate verification processes each time they request records. Datavant says approximately 73% of patients using ID.me through the tool already have an existing ID.me credential.
The partnership is designed to address the balance between easier patient access and the privacy requirements surrounding sensitive health information. By confirming identity digitally, healthcare organizations can have greater confidence that records are being released to the correct individual while patients can avoid delays associated with manual document review and authentication.
For healthcare providers, the integration can also streamline release-of-information workflows by reducing administrative work associated with identity verification. The companies say the technology provides greater auditability and transparency throughout the authentication process while helping staff process patient record requests more efficiently.
The integration forms part of Datavant's broader patient access and health data infrastructure strategy. By combining digital identity with electronic medical record requests, Datavant and ID.me aim to create a more standardized and patient-friendly approach to accessing health information while maintaining appropriate security and privacy protections.
