Dexcom G7 CGM device will connect directly to Apple Watch via Bluetooth

Dexcom announced that its G7 continuous glucose monitoring system will now offer direct connectivity to the Apple Watch via Bluetooth, allowing users to check their glucose readings in real-time without needing their iPhone. This feature is available in the U.S., U.K., and Ireland, with further expansion planned. The update enhances the G7's Bluetooth capabilities, enabling it to communicate glucose readings to multiple devices simultaneously.

Jake Leach, Dexcom's COO, expressed excitement about fulfilling customer requests for direct Apple Watch connectivity, highlighting the convenience for users to monitor their glucose levels during activities without their phones. The Dexcom G7 data will also integrate with the Health app.

This development is part of a larger trend in diabetes management technology. Dexcom's over-the-counter CGM patch, Stelo, recently received FDA clearance, and Garmin integrated Dexcom data into its wearables in 2021. Other innovations include a gamified app for foot care from Singapore's Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and monitoring platforms by companies like Podimetrics and FootSense.
