Dutch R&D agency TNO launches AIKON Health for wearable heart monitoring

TNO, a Dutch R&D agency, has launched AIKON Health, a digital health company focused on developing wearable devices for monitoring patients with chronic health conditions.

AIKON's initial project centres on heart monitoring, utilising technology created by TNO researchers at the Holst Centre in Eindhoven, which specialises in 3D-printed electronics and biocompatible materials. The wearable sensor prototype is designed for individuals with heart failure, serving as an early warning system to detect deterioration, provide early treatment, and prevent hospital readmissions.

AIKON plans to create a range of wearable sensors to monitor variables like ECG, heart rate, skin temperature, respiratory rate, and blood pressure changes over time, aiding cardiologists and nurses in managing heart failure patients.

The wearable sensor patch consists of multiple sensors and can transmit data wirelessly or store it onboard for later analysis.
