Gary Gottlieb, MD, the former CEO of Mass General Brigham, has co-founded a digital mental health company called Author Health, which aims to serve Medicare Advantage patients.
Author Health's digital platform provides referrals for local in-person care and facilitates telehealth services for patients. Dr Gottlieb expressed his commitment to improving the care of individuals with severe mental illness and addressing the challenges posed by societal stigma, payment systems, and policies.
He emphasised the importance of integrating behavioural health and primary care, particularly for older patients, and has been involved in developing and supporting such programs throughout his career as a geriatric psychiatrist and healthcare executive.
The company has launched with $115 million in financing and has partnered with Humana. Initially available in Florida, Author Health plans to expand its services to other areas by early 2024.
