Function has launched a secure health data connector that allows members to bring longitudinal laboratory results and clinician-reviewed notes into third-party AI platforms, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude and Perplexity.
The connector is designed to give general-purpose AI systems access to personal biological context when users choose to share their information. Rather than relying solely on population-level information or requiring users to manually enter results and upload static documents, the technology provides a governed pipeline for structured health data.
Function says more than 80% of its members have at least one biomarker outside an optimal reference range, including measures related to cardiovascular risk, thyroid function and iron status. Its platform covers more than 160 diagnostic laboratory tests conducted biannually across areas including heart health, metabolism, hormones, thyroid function, heavy metals, nutrients and cancer screening markers.
The connector enables users to authenticate data sharing with supported AI platforms through integrations that include remote MCP connectors for Claude and ChatGPT Health and app integrations for ChatGPT. The system also supports Perplexity.
Alongside numerical laboratory results, Function can provide clinician-reviewed notes intended to give AI models additional context for interpreting individual findings. Users retain control over permissions, which can be revoked, and can choose among supported AI models rather than keeping their information within a single AI ecosystem.
The technology builds on Function’s Private AI Chat and the architecture developed through its Medical Intelligence Lab. The company positions the new connector as an extension of its approach to combining personal health information with AI-based tools while maintaining user-controlled data access.
“AI can empower us to understand and take action in so many aspects of our lives. Yet when it comes to health, AI has been missing the context that matters most: our biology. Function now lets you safely share your lab results and clinician-reviewed notes with your preferred AI. You can now choose to truly personalize the conversation by grounding it in your own health.”
The statement was made by Ziad Sultan, Function’s chief product and technology officer.
