Google Cloud and Mayo Clinic working on new generative AI use cases

Google Cloud has recently announced advancements in its collaboration with Mayo Clinic, aiming to bring new innovations to generative AI. Mayo Clinic, an early adopter of Google's Generative AI App Builder's Enterprise Search capability, will explore the combination of search and generative AI to provide faster and more seamless access to important information for its clinicians and staff in a more conversational manner.

The updated search tool now supports HIPAA compliance, enabling the utilisation of data from various sources like electronic health records, research papers, and clinical guidelines. This expanded capability allows health systems, including Mayo Clinic, to unify data across different documents, databases, and intranets. As a result, it becomes easier to search, analyse, and identify the most relevant results, leading to improved diagnosis and treatment.

Kalyan Pamarthy, the product lead for enterprise search at Google, highlighted the enthusiasm among enterprise leaders for generative search as a powerful application of generative AI. Traditional enterprise search methods often rely on pattern matching and require extensive manual investigation to find relevant answers. Generative AI, on the other hand, offers the opportunity to leverage data more effectively, enabling conversational apps that can provide accurate summaries, answer complex questions, and deliver information faster by synthesising multiple sources.

Google Cloud will also fine-tune other tools at Mayo Clinic, including Generative AI support in Vertex AI. This support aims to enhance workforce productivity, streamline administrative processes, and automate repetitive tasks, allowing healthcare professionals to concentrate on providing higher-value patient care.
