Google launches Fitbit Charge 6 with new health capabilities

Google has unveiled the Fitbit Charge 6, the next-generation fitness wearable packed with new features.

It boasts a more precise heart rate tracker using AI and machine learning, GPS capabilities, YouTube Music controls, Google Maps accessibility, and Google Wallet integration. Users can stream real-time heart rate data to gym equipment via Bluetooth pairing, working with partners like NordicTrack and Peloton. The data streams live to the equipment for privacy.

It offers 20 new exercise modes, including surfing and skiing, bringing the total to 40. Accessibility features include Zoom and magnification. The design remains unchanged but is now eco-friendly, with 100% recycled aluminium and plastic-free packaging. The device retains ECG, stress-management tools, and mindfulness content.

The Charge 6 will require a Google account for login and is priced at $159, with pre-orders starting on September 28 and availability in 30 countries on October 12. Fitbit Premium is included for six months.
