Hinge Health has completed its $105 million cash acquisition of Cylinder Health, expanding the company's virtual care portfolio into gastrointestinal health. The deal builds on Hinge Health's existing musculoskeletal, pelvic health and migraine offerings and lays the groundwork for a unified GI Care Program expected to launch in 2027.
Cylinder provides virtual-first digestive healthcare for people managing chronic gastrointestinal conditions. The company has built a substantial employer and health plan presence, serving nearly 100 enterprise customers representing approximately two million covered lives. It has also treated more than 150,000 patients and established integrations with two of the three largest pharmacy benefit managers and several leading commercial health plans.
The acquisition gives Hinge Health an established platform for entering a large and underserved area of healthcare. Chronic gastrointestinal conditions affect approximately one in four U.S. adults and account for an estimated $135 billion in annual direct medical spending. Access to specialist care is also limited, with 69% of U.S. counties lacking a practicing gastroenterologist, creating an opportunity for virtual models to improve access and provide earlier support.
Hinge Health also sees significant overlap between its existing patient population and Cylinder's digestive health services. Musculoskeletal pain, pelvic health conditions and gastrointestinal disorders frequently coexist and can involve related biological pathways, including the gut-brain axis and central sensitization. Integrating these services could allow Hinge to provide more coordinated care for members managing multiple chronic conditions rather than treating each issue through separate programs.
The acquisition continues Hinge Health's expansion beyond its original focus on digital musculoskeletal care. By incorporating Cylinder's clinical model, enterprise relationships and digestive health expertise, the company aims to build a broader virtual care platform while giving employers and health plans a more consolidated approach to managing high-cost chronic conditions.
