Kaia Health's Digital Approach Reduces Pain and Healthcare Costs in Landmark Study

Kaia Health has released the follow-up results of its landmark randomized controlled trial, the Rise-uP study, which highlights superior long-term outcomes for a digital-first treatment approach to lower back pain. Involving over 1,200 randomized participants, the study demonstrated significant reductions in pain, improvements in physical and mental health, and substantial cost savings when compared to standard treatments over a 12-month period.

The key findings of the study revealed that Kaia app users experienced a 46% reduction in pain intensity, significantly higher than the 24% reduction observed in the control group. This continues the positive trend seen in the initial three-month findings. Additionally, participants using the Kaia app showed notable improvements in functional ability and physical well-being, unlike the control group which exhibited little to no change.

Mental health benefits were also significant for Kaia app users, who reported reduced levels of anxiety, depression, and stress, alongside overall improved mental well-being. In contrast, the control group saw a decline in mental health over the same period, underscoring the effectiveness of a holistic approach to managing chronic pain. Patient satisfaction was higher among Kaia users compared to the control group, further validating the digital-first treatment's efficacy.

Cost-effectiveness was another major advantage of the Rise-uP approach. Participants using Kaia Health's digital therapy saw an 81% decrease in overall healthcare costs, primarily due to reductions in inpatient treatment, medication expenses, and incapacity for work. Konstantin Mehl, Founder and CEO of Kaia Health, expressed satisfaction with the results, emphasizing the company's commitment to delivering innovative, accessible, and cost-effective digital health solutions for chronic pain sufferers.
