Leica Biosystems, a Danaher company, has completed its acquisition of StatLab Medical Products, expanding its pathology portfolio and strengthening its capabilities across the cancer diagnostic workflow. StatLab specializes in pre-analytical consumables and equipment used by pathology laboratories, complementing Leica Biosystems' existing technologies in tissue processing, staining, digital pathology and AI-enabled diagnostics.
The acquisition creates a broader end-to-end pathology offering spanning specimen collection and preparation through advanced staining, digital imaging and computational analysis. By integrating these capabilities, Leica Biosystems aims to help laboratories standardize histology workflows, reduce variability and move from biological samples to diagnostic results more efficiently.
The combination comes as pathology laboratories face growing case volumes, increasingly complex diagnostic requirements and persistent workforce shortages. Leica Biosystems says the expanded portfolio can help laboratories automate and optimize more stages of the diagnostic process while improving consistency and quality.
For cancer care, faster and more reliable pathology results can provide clinicians with information about tumor type and characteristics needed to guide personalized treatment decisions. The acquisition also strengthens Leica Biosystems' work with biopharmaceutical companies developing precision oncology therapies and associated diagnostic technologies.
StatLab will now become part of Leica Biosystems, combining its established laboratory products and customer relationships with Leica's global digital and computational pathology capabilities.
