Luma Health has announced the acquisition of Tonic Health from R1, in a move that significantly broadens its platform capabilities and deepens its integration across health systems using Oracle Health EHRs. The acquisition enhances Luma’s suite of AI-native tools focused on simplifying patient intake, consent management, and follow-up, as health systems seek technology solutions to streamline workflows and improve care delivery.
Tonic Health, founded in 2010, is known for its dynamic intake, electronic consent, and patient-reported outcome solutions widely used by healthcare organizations on Oracle Health systems. Through the acquisition, Luma expands its network to serve over 1,000 health systems, including more than 15 leading academic medical centers, collectively reaching 100 million patients across the U.S., the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Caribbean.
“Major health systems rely on both Luma and Tonic to cut out manual coordination between staff and patients and get patients ready for care. We’ve long admired Tonic’s focus on EHR and partner integration, designing products that work for patients and healthcare providers, and making patient intake and follow-up simpler, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to Luma,” said Aditya Bansod, Co-Founder and CTO of Luma Health. “Together, we dramatically reduce the effort to successfully coordinate care, freeing short-staffed teams from manual tracking and follow-up so our customers’ resources go farther.”
The acquisition follows a year of sustained growth for Luma, marked by record annual recurring revenue, international expansion, and recognition among Inc.’s 5,000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies for the second time. The company continues to advance AI-driven tools that help patients navigate from scheduling to post-visit follow-up without extensive staff input.
Healthcare organizations have welcomed the partnership for its potential to reduce operational bottlenecks and enhance efficiency. “Luma and Tonic have each been trusted partners for Fisher-Titus. Both understand the challenges our organization faces and what technology we need to help deliver exceptional care,” said Linda Stevenson, CIO at Fisher-Titus Medical Center. “We’re excited to continue the partnership with the expanded Luma team to reach more of our patients with less burden on our hardworking staff.”
Anya Henriod, General Manager at Tonic Health, added, “We believe patients and healthcare providers deserve an easier way to handle everything that comes before their visit. The Tonic team couldn’t be more excited to work with our new colleagues at Luma to remove the bottlenecks that hold care back. We will build the best-in-business technology together to support our customers as we continue to grow.”
Luma plans to continue investing in AI-native workflows through 2026 and will host a series of executive sessions for health system leaders to share innovations and best practices in patient care coordination.
