Masimo announced the addition of a new sleep analysis feature, Sleep Halo, for its W1 advanced health tracking wearable. Sleep Halo offers overnight sleep data tracking, recording over 70,000 daily measurements of second-by-second continuous health data. This new feature leverages Masimo’s continuous pulse oximetry and machine learning to deliver comprehensive sleep insights, including sleep quality, sleep stage duration, periods of rest and wakefulness, and desaturation events.
The data provided by Sleep Halo can be visualized on the Masimo Health smartphone app, which allows users to monitor and analyze their sleep patterns. The feature includes a Sleep Halo score, an algorithmic calculation of overall sleep quality, offering users an easy-to-understand metric for assessing their sleep. Masimo plans to integrate this feature into all future wearables, including the upcoming Freedom watch and band.
Launched in 2022, the Masimo W1 health watch was designed for consumer use to provide accurate, continuous health measurements in a lifestyle-friendly design. The W1 wearable builds on Masimo’s expertise in non-invasive blood parameter monitoring and has received FDA clearance for medical purposes as of last November.
Joe Kiani, Masimo founder and CEO, highlighted the unique capabilities of the Masimo W1 wearable in continuously measuring SpO2 and pulse rate (PR), enabling robust and scientifically backed sleep analysis. He emphasized the reliability of Sleep Halo by noting its benchmarking against EEG for comparable sleep stage analysis. Kiani expressed hope that the new Sleep Halo feature will help users improve their sleep hygiene, ultimately enhancing their quality of life.
This news comes on the heels of Masimo’s exciting collaboration with the Cleveland Clinic, covered here.
