Mayo Clinic invents new healthcare AI

Mayo Clinic researchers based in Rochester, Minnesota, have developed a novel form of healthcare artificial intelligence that they believe could revolutionise cancer treatment.

Known as hypotheses-driven AI, this approach differs from traditional AI methods by integrating current knowledge about specific diseases, such as genetic variations or interactions between genes. Unlike conventional AI, which relies solely on large datasets often lacking the latest scientific insights, hypotheses-driven AI aims to incorporate up-to-date information.

Senior author and co-inventor Dr. Hu Li, a researcher specialising in biology and AI at Mayo Clinic, emphasised the significance of this innovation, stating, "This marks a new era in creating targeted and informed AI algorithms to address scientific inquiries, enhance disease understanding, and facilitate personalised medicine. It holds the potential to unveil discoveries overlooked by traditional AI methods."
