Mayo Clinic Partners with hellocare.ai to Deploy AI-Powered Virtual Care Solutions

Mayo Clinic in Florida has entered into a strategic partnership with Clearwater-based hellocare.ai to explore the implementation of ambient clinical intelligence technology across its healthcare delivery system. The collaboration, announced Tuesday, focuses on developing AI-powered solutions including ambient documentation, digital whiteboards, patient engagement tools, and hospital-at-home services to transform both patient care and clinical workflows.

The partnership represents a significant investment in healthcare innovation, with Mayo Clinic taking a financial stake in the technology's success. According to the announcement, any revenue generated from this partnership will be directed toward supporting Mayo Clinic's not-for-profit mission encompassing patient care, education, and research. This arrangement follows hellocare.ai's successful $47 million funding round completed in April, positioning the company for expanded development and deployment of its smart hospital platform.

These technologies enable healthcare organizations to scale clinical oversight, optimize resource allocation, and improve patient outcomes while addressing the persistent challenge of clinician burnout through the reduction of repetitive administrative tasks.

Dr. Michael Maniaci, a professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, emphasized the transformative nature of the initiative. "Our recent hospital expansion is more than just adding beds; it's about reimagining the patient and clinician experience," he explained. "By integrating advanced technologies like ambient clinical intelligence and digital engagement tools, we've created a care environment where patients are more connected and clinicians can focus more on personalized care."

The implementation of inpatient virtual care technologies aligns with broader industry trends toward modernizing healthcare delivery. Health systems increasingly recognize these platforms' potential to improve safety, reduce operational costs, and enhance both patient and staff experiences. AI-driven solutions have demonstrated particular effectiveness in improving clinical resource deployment, creating greater scheduling flexibility for employees, and enabling more personalized patient care.

International examples support the viability of this approach. The Korea Health Industry Development Institute's smart hospital project, launched in 2020, has successfully deployed 74 smart hospital tools across 17 hospitals in South Korea. Patient surveys from this initiative revealed strong acceptance of digital solutions, even among elderly populations who initially raised concerns about technology adoption.
