Meridian, a subsidiary of Centene Corporation, has partnered with Mae, a digital health platform focused on underserved pregnant women, to improve maternal health outcomes in Michigan. The partnership connects Medicaid members with over 50 local doulas who provide non-medical support, including labor education, lactation, and postpartum care. The initiative also integrates a digital platform for risk tracking and coordinated care.
Mae's community-based approach, combined with Meridian’s Medicaid support, aims to reduce disparities in maternal health, including preterm births and unnecessary C-sections. The culturally relevant doula services target improving overall perinatal care for low-income populations.
This collaboration marks a larger trend toward addressing maternal health inequities. Mae was launched in 2021 with $1.3 million in funding and has been growing its presence in Michigan. Meridian has also been investing in health initiatives, including a $1.1 million grant in 2023 to Detroit's Neighborhood Service Organization for homeless health care services.
