NEC Corporation (Thailand) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chiang Mai Municipality to convert Chiang Mai into a smart city. The initial focus will be on creating a digital platform for the district's healthcare system.
The healthcare system will primarily assist healthcare facilities in Chiang Mai that cater to elderly and chronically ill patients. The MoU also aims to explore the feasibility of implementing other applications within the community under the "Smart Hospital" concept.
As the designated technology partner in the collaboration, NEC, along with participating healthcare providers, will deploy IoT devices in the facilities during the initial phase. They will also introduce a mobile app that can alert caregivers and patients' relatives in case of emergencies, such as a fall or severe illness.
In the subsequent phase, NEC will provide further support to caregivers through an application that enables remote health monitoring using cloud-based systems. The app will also allow patients to manage their appointments and medication requests, significantly reducing the workload of healthcare assistants.
NEC will further assist Chiang Mai Municipality in facilitating Tele-Medicine services, enabling patients to receive diagnoses and consultations for mild illnesses or follow-up treatments from the comfort of their homes.
