New £100M fund to use AI’s potential in life sciences and healthcare

The UK government has launched the AI Life Sciences Accelerator Mission with a £100 million investment to harness AI's potential in addressing major health challenges.

The initiative focuses on areas where AI can transform treatments for previously incurable diseases and takes advantage of the UK's strengths in health data and AI. It supports eight critical healthcare missions, from improving cancer treatment to tackling dementia.

The funding aims to enhance the development of precision treatments, especially for dementia, using AI to identify at-risk individuals and optimise clinical trials. Additionally, AI technology is aiding mental health diagnosis and treatment. The initiative will test new technologies in areas with high clinical needs over the next 18 months and improve mental health research over five years.

This initiative aligns with the government's commitment to harness AI across healthcare and reduce waiting lists, speed up diagnoses, and enhance patient care within the NHS.
