Medtronic has announced the launch of its new Live Stream function for the Touch Surgery ecosystem of digital technologies. Initially unveiled in April, the Live Stream technology incorporates advanced AI capabilities to complement the Touch Surgery digital offering. On July 15, the company's Digital Surgery unit revealed that the Live Stream feature is now commercially available in the U.S. and Western European Union.
The Touch Surgery Live Stream includes 14 new AI algorithms designed to enhance its post-operative analysis capabilities. These algorithms provide AI-powered surgical insights for laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgeries, spanning surgical workflow, instrument, and anatomy detection. This expansion strengthens the Touch Surgery Performance Insights platform’s ability to transform surgical videos into actionable post-procedure insights.
Medtronic's latest innovation is part of a broader initiative to integrate advanced computing power in operating rooms globally. The Touch Surgery ecosystem offers surgical video, simulations, and case management solutions. The new analytics cover various procedures, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, and robotic-assisted hysterectomy.
The Touch Surgery Live Stream enables secure live streaming of surgical procedures, creating an immersive virtual learning environment that mimics the experience of being physically present. This feature aims to provide surgeons with access to expert techniques while reducing the need for crowded operating theaters. It also allows surgeons, trainees, and OR managers to conduct and attend live broadcasts, enhancing the quality of surgical education and training.
