New AI skin scanner available for myGP app users

Users of myGP app now have free access to artificial intelligence (AI) skin scanning technology provided by Autoderm.

myGP app is an independent medical app, available in the UK. The app enables users to book GP appointments, integrating with clinical systems and improving interactions between GPs and patients.  Using the new skin scanning technology, users will be able to upload a photo of their skin concern, and receive the top five skin disease results ranked in order of probability, within seconds. The AI model can screen for inflammatory diseases, benign tumours, skin cancer, and visual sexually transmitted disease (STDs) anonymously.

According to the British Association for Dermatology, skin consultations are one of the most common reasons for GP visits in the UK. However nearly 50% of patients can be treated with over the counter medications. The addition of the skin scanning feature to myGP app aims to reduce the unnecessary appointment anxiety and burden, as well as, avoiding the waiting time required for a specialist referral.

Dr Alexander Börve, MD, creator of Autoderm,“We estimate that around 50% of its users can be relieved of their skin ailments by going to the pharmacy and the other 50% by getting a timely GP appointment.”
