Northwell Health Launches Northwell Studios to Address Social Issues Through Entertainment

Northwell Health, based in New Hyde Park, N.Y., has launched Northwell Studios, an initiative designed to combine healthcare and entertainment to address social issues and enhance brand visibility. Inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe's storytelling approach, Northwell aims to engage consumers and familiarize them with the health system before they need its services. Ramon Soto, Northwell's chief marketing and communications officer, explained that Northwell Studios has two main objectives: bolstering the brand presence and tackling significant social issues through storytelling.

Northwell has previously created successful documentary projects such as "Lenox Hill" and "Emergency NYC" on Netflix, which provide viewers with an inside look at the health system's operations. The new studio will build on this foundation.

One example of Northwell's commitment to addressing social issues is its recent collaboration with HBO on "One South: Portrait of a Psych Unit," a docu-series exploring the mental health crisis among college students. Soto emphasized that the success of such projects is measured by their ability to make a meaningful impact, even if it helps just one person.

The studio is actively seeking partnerships with filmmakers, writers, and creatives who share a passion for social impact. It is interested in various projects, from major motion pictures to unscripted content, focusing on critical issues such as women's health and fertility crises. Soto expressed enthusiasm about the future and the potential for new ideas that align with Northwell's goals.

Since its launch on July 24, Northwell Studios has received numerous proposals and is keen to explore new projects. Soto believes that the unique model of Northwell Studios can fuel and fund social messages that need to be promoted, ultimately enabling the studio to do more social good.
