Oracle Cerner adds generative AI to its EHR platforms

At the Oracle Health Conference in Las Vegas, Oracle announced its new Oracle Clinical Digital Assistant technology designed to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its Cerner electronic health record (EHR) system.

This technology aims to reduce manual work and documentation burdens for healthcare providers by enabling them to use generative AI and voice commands. The AI assists clinicians by automating note-taking during appointments and suggesting context-aware next actions, such as ordering medications or scheduling lab tests.

It also allows providers to access patient EHR records verbally, streamlining interactions with the EHR system. Additionally, patients can use the tool's natural language processing capabilities to book appointments, inquire about billing, access personal health information, and ask medical questions.

Oracle plans to make the tool available within the next 12 months. This move is part of Oracle's broader focus on interoperability and innovation in healthcare following its acquisition of Cerner in 2022.
