Orlando Health launches virtual sitting at four hospitals

Orlando Health has introduced virtual sitters at four of its hospitals to enhance patient safety and prevent falls and injuries.

These remote sitters continuously monitor high-risk patients for signs of falling, room exits, confusion, or delirium. They communicate with patients via two-way audio and can alert in-person nurses and care team members when necessary.

This technology allows on-site sitters to focus more on higher-risk patients, such as those requiring restraints or at a high risk of self-harm.

"Maximising this technology is vital to our strategy for enhancing the quality, safety and experience of care," said Kelly Edmondson, MSN, RN, vice president of nursing and patient care.

Other healthcare systems, including Community Health Systems, Kaiser Permanente, and Bon Secours Mercy Health, have also adopted virtual sitting as a patient care model.
