Paige and Microsoft collaborate to build world's largest AI model for cancer diagnosis

Paige, a healthcare technology company, has partnered with Microsoft to develop the world's largest image-based artificial intelligence (AI) model aimed at fighting cancer. Paige, a leader in digital pathology solutions and clinical AI, previously created the first Large Foundation Model using over one billion images from half a million pathology slides across various cancer types.

Now, they are collaborating with Microsoft to build a much larger AI model with billions of parameters. This model will capture the intricate details of cancer and serve as the foundation for the next generation of clinical applications and computational biomarkers in oncology and pathology.

In this new phase of development, Paige will incorporate up to four million digitised microscopy slides from various cancer types using their extensive clinical data archive. They will utilise Microsoft's advanced supercomputing infrastructure to train the AI model at scale and eventually deploy it in hospitals and laboratories worldwide through Microsoft Azure.

The collaboration aims to revolutionise cancer diagnosis and patient care by harnessing the power of generative AI on an unprecedented scale, providing higher accuracy and novel capabilities in the field of oncology. Microsoft's research and cloud infrastructure, combined with Paige's expertise and data resources, are expected to deliver groundbreaking insights into cancer pathology, advancing healthcare and improving patient lives.
