Sentara Health, headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, is extending the use of artificial intelligence-powered clinical documentation across its entire network of 12 hospitals.
Initially, Sentara Health began testing this technology developed by Regard in October last year at four of its hospitals. The AI system reviews electronic health record (EHR) data and offers diagnostic recommendations as well as drafting notes for healthcare providers to review, modify, and sign off on.
Tim Skeen, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Sentara Health, emphasised the importance of clinician satisfaction in relation to patient outcomes. He explained that Regard's AI technology standardises clinical notes, ensuring safer handovers between healthcare providers. Furthermore, it serves as a valuable tool for clinical documentation integrity (CDI) teams, enhancing their effectiveness.
The expansion of this technology across all 12 hospitals is scheduled to be finalised by the end of the first quarter of 2024. This will enable hundreds of Sentara hospitalists to benefit from the AI-powered clinical documentation system.
