Digital health startup, Summer Health, is the first nationwide healthcare provider to offer text-based pediatric care in the US. Their service guarantees parents and caregivers answers to their child's health questions within fifteen minutes, 24/7.
For a monthly fee of $20, Summer Health offers comprehensive support for children aged 0-2, addressing various conditions such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, minor cuts, and scrapes. In a recent press release, the company announced the introduction of speciality care services in areas such as nutrition, sleep, and lactation.
Summer Health aims to address the challenges parents face in accessing timely and quality care, particularly due to the shortage of paediatricians. With over 80% of non-urgent care visits related to sleep and feeding concerns, Summer Health wants to bridge the gap in the healthcare system by providing continuous, trusted medical support beyond primary care.
Founder and CEO Ellen DaSilva emphasises the importance of offering a supplementary service for parents, focusing on credibility and continuous support rather than replacing traditional paediatricians. The platform allows parents to communicate with licensed paediatricians, maintaining a historical log of conversations and enabling efficient communication without the need for travel or waiting times.
The company created this platform, acknowledging the prevalence of texting in everyday life, and highlighting its advantages in terms of convenience, accessibility, and discreteness.
