Walmart launches optical virtual try-on and online prescription purchases

Walmart has introduced a new Optical Virtual Try-On (VTO) feature, elevating the online shopping experience for eyewear by utilising advanced 3D data and algorithms. This technology creates hyper-realistic digital twins of eyewear frames, offering users an accurate depiction of how the frames will appear on their faces. With a collection of over 750 frames available on Walmart.com or the Walmart app, customers can virtually "try on" frames, customise their lenses, and seamlessly complete their purchase online. This move enhances the convenience, personalisation, and excitement of shopping for eyewear through Walmart's digital platforms.

The seamless shopping process involves users browsing the extensive collection, selecting frames to virtually try on, and customising their lenses with prescription details and coatings. The commitment to vision wellness extends beyond the virtual experience, with Walmart actively investing in Vision Centers nationwide. These centres offer an expanded assortment of affordable, high-quality frames, reimagined in-store experiences, and a focus on ongoing training for opticians. Walmart's launch of Optical Virtual Try-On and online prescription eyewear shopping aligns with its dedication to improving access, convenience, and customer satisfaction in health and wellness services.

David Reitnauer, VP Optical at Walmart Health & Wellness, emphasised the company's commitment to meeting evolving customer needs and enhancing access and convenience in health services. Walmart's move into Optical Virtual Try-On and online prescription eyewear shopping represents a significant step in providing customers with innovative solutions to see better and live better, aligning with their role as a trusted health and wellness destination for over 33 years.
