Withings Acquires Biosency to Expand Respiratory Remote Monitoring Capabilities

Connected health company Withings has acquired Biosency, a France-based developer of remote monitoring solutions for patients with respiratory insufficiency, marking the company’s entry into respiratory remote monitoring. The acquisition expands Withings’ connected care portfolio and supports its strategy of building an independent European connected health company focused on the digital transformation of healthcare.

Founded in Rennes in 2017, Biosency has developed a modular remote monitoring platform designed for patients living with chronic respiratory diseases and the healthcare professionals who manage their care. The company’s technology includes a medically certified algorithm capable of detecting chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations at an early stage, supported by several years of clinical research and deployment within the French healthcare system.

Following the acquisition, the entire Biosency team will join Withings while continuing to develop the solution from Rennes. According to the companies, Biosency will benefit from Withings’ industrial expertise and broader connected health ecosystem, allowing it to accelerate commercialization and scale its technology while maintaining continuity of its certified solution and ongoing support for patients and healthcare professionals.

Commenting on the acquisition, Éric Carreel, President of Withings, said, “I was impressed by Biosency's medical rigor and the quality of its research in COPD. I see a strong alignment between the detection of respiratory exacerbations and the work we are doing in the monitoring of cardiometabolic diseases. This transaction is part of our ambition to build a strong and independent European player in connected health.”

Marie Pirotais, CEO of Biosency, added, “Joining Withings will allow us to accelerate the deployment of our solutions while preserving the ambition that has driven Biosency since its creation: improving patient monitoring and care.”

Withings, which introduced one of the first connected scales in 2009, has developed an ecosystem of connected health devices used by more than 15 million people worldwide. The company’s portfolio measures more than 90 health biomarkers and includes clinically validated solutions alongside predictive algorithms and risk assessment tools designed to support healthcare providers. The addition of Biosency extends these capabilities into respiratory disease monitoring, complementing Withings’ existing focus on cardiometabolic health while broadening its remote patient monitoring offering.
