Withings and 9amHealth Partner to Enhance Virtual Obesity Care with Connected Monitoring

Withings Health Solutions has entered into a partnership with 9amHealth to deploy connected health devices across employer-sponsored obesity programs, expanding remote patient monitoring capabilities in virtual cardiometabolic care. Through the collaboration, 9amHealth members will use the Withings Body Pro 2 cellular scale to track advanced body composition metrics, while select high-risk patients will also receive the BPM Pro 2 blood pressure monitor.

The initiative reflects a broader shift in obesity management, where clinicians increasingly focus on body composition rather than weight alone. Monitoring fat mass and lean muscle preservation has become central to ensuring safe and sustainable outcomes. Continuous data collection allows care teams to intervene earlier and tailor treatment adjustments more precisely.

A six-month data review conducted by 9amHealth found that members who weighed themselves at least monthly achieved an average of 46% more weight loss than those who did not. The findings underscore the importance of sustained engagement with monitoring tools.

“Weight loss can also support blood pressure, sleep quality, and A1c for people with diabetes,” noted Avantika Waring, MD, Chief Medical Officer at 9amHealth. “With the Withings Body Pro 2, our Care Team can see weight, body composition, and trends in real time. That visibility helps us guide safer, more effective weight care, adjust treatment earlier, and support muscle preservation.”

To address common barriers to device adherence, the Body Pro 2 operates via direct cellular connectivity, eliminating the need for Wi-Fi configuration, Bluetooth pairing, or companion apps. The device is activated out of the box, transmitting data securely to the 9amHealth care team when the patient steps on the scale. A proprietary ProgramMember ID system ensures accurate patient identification, even in shared households.

Behavioral considerations also informed the device’s design. The “Eyes Closed Mode” allows patients to transmit their data without viewing their weight, mitigating anxiety associated with weigh-ins.

“Effective obesity care depends on consistent participation, not just access to treatment,” said Antoine Pivron, Vice President of Withings Health Solutions. “Across our programs, more than 90% of members using the cellular scale remain actively engaged with regular measurements for at least six months.”
