Withings' Body Scan Connected Health Station cleared by FDA

Withings' Body Scan Connected Health Station has gained FDA clearance, made possible by Withings Scan Monitor 2.01, and is set to be released in the U.S. market this upcoming fall. A groundbreaking achievement, the Body Scan combined with Withings Scan Monitor 2.0 is the world's pioneering health station to secure FDA approval for identifying atrial fibrillation using a 6-Lead ECG technology.

The Body Scan offers a daily assessment of biomarkers linked to prevalent health conditions. It introduces an advancement in the smart scale category by monitoring segmental body composition, heart rate, and vascular age. Expanding its capabilities to include the detection of atrial fibrillation through a 6-lead ECG and the evaluation of nerve activity, the Body Scan transforms beyond mere weight management. It redefines the landscape of home-based connected health stations, empowering users to take proactive control of their well-being.

Recipient of three CES 2022 Innovation Honoree Awards, the Body Scan also provides users access to coaching, clinical experts, and personalised holistic plans within the app, facilitating the pursuit of their health objectives. These programs, developed in collaboration with specialists in cardiovascular, neurologic, and metabolic conditions, offer users valuable insights based on established metrics. Moreover, users can establish connections with medical professionals in case of health concerns.

The Body Scan is designed as a single platform crafted from high-strength tempered glass, featuring an integrated retractable handle. It integrates four weight sensors and 14 ITO electrodes in the platform, along with 4 stainless steel electrodes in the handle, enabling 6-lead ECG and segmental body composition analysis. The device incorporates a long-lasting rechargeable battery that provides up to 12 months of usage. A large high-resolution 3.2" LCD colour screen displays statistics prominently.

Eric Carreel, Withings Founder and President, remarked, "Withings pioneered the connected health category in 2009 and is today proud to hold the title of the leading smart scale manufacturer in the United States, assisting millions of users in weight management. Through the Body Scan, we're poised to elevate the morning weigh-in into a sophisticated home health evaluation, granting access to comprehensive health insights and customised health programs devised by medical professionals. This empowers users to make informed decisions grounded in medical-grade data, introducing a new dimension to ongoing lifestyle and chronic condition management, all through an unparalleled in-home health experience."
