Wolters Kluwer Health announced a major expansion of its generative AI solution, UpToDate Expert AI, by integrating comprehensive medication data from UpToDate Lexidrug. This enhancement is designed to give clinicians transparent, evidence-based answers to support critical medication and therapeutic decisions, expanding the platform’s role in clinical decision support to include medication management.
UpToDate Expert AI, launched in September, is already deployed across more than 50 major U.S. health systems. The integration adds around 3,000 expertly vetted drug topics from Lexidrug, written and reviewed by pharmacists and clinical specialists. These trusted sources ensure that generative AI responses are consistent, accurate, and aligned with the latest evidence—unlike many online resources that may provide outdated or conflicting information.
Through its conversational chat interface, clinicians can ask natural language questions about medications, such as comparing drug side effects, contraindications, or safety requirements for specific patient cases. The addition of Lexidrug data addresses a key clinical need, as nearly 30% of clinician questions on UpToDate are drug-related.
Yaw Fellin, senior vice president and general manager of Clinical Decision Support and Provider Solutions at Wolters Kluwer Health, emphasized that the strong adoption of UpToDate Expert AI demonstrates a growing demand for AI-powered medical insights that are rigorously vetted and grounded in evidence-based content.
