XRHealth, the Boston-based therapeutic extended reality platform, has announced its acquisition of RealizedCare, marking a significant expansion of its digital therapeutics capabilities. RealizedCare, formed in 2023 through the merger of BehaVR and Fern Health, specializes in virtual reality-based chronic care management and behavioral health solutions.
XRHealth's platform currently delivers medical XR experiences focusing on physical and cognitive rehabilitation, offering immersive environments that address pain management during medical procedures, facilitate occupational and physical therapy, and provide cognitive training. The platform extends to behavioral therapy applications, treating conditions including PTSD, stress, addiction, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
The integration of RealizedCare's offerings will enhance XRHealth's portfolio with scientifically validated methods for managing chronic pain and behavioral health conditions. A key addition is RealizedCare's triage tool, designed to optimize personalized patient care. Following this acquisition, XRHealth positions itself as the leading AI-driven therapeutic XR platform worldwide.
Aaron Gani, RealizedCare's founder and CEO, who also serves as chairman of the board of directors at the Digital Therapeutics Alliance, will transition to the role of general manager of XRHealth U.S. Commenting on the acquisition, Gani stated, "We are thrilled to become a part of XRHealth's groundbreaking digital therapeutics platform. By integrating our triage tool with XRHealth's cutting-edge XR and mixed reality capabilities, we can expand access to evidence-based, value-based care solutions, helping more individuals manage chronic pain and mental health conditions."
This acquisition follows XRHealth's recent expansion moves, including the November acquisition of NeuroReality, a cognitive training virtual reality platform, and its 2023 acquisition of Barcelona-based Amelia Virtual Care. The company's growth has been supported by several funding rounds, including $6 million secured last year, following earlier rounds of $10 million and $7 million. RealizedCare brings its own history of strategic partnerships, including a notable $163 million collaboration with Sumitomo Pharma for developing VR therapies targeting various mental health conditions.
