Zocdoc has acquired Sohar Health, a healthcare technology company specializing in automated insurance discovery and eligibility verification. The transaction, completed on October 2, 2026, marks the first acquisition in Zocdoc's nearly 20-year history and strengthens its efforts to simplify healthcare access by helping patients identify their insurance coverage and book appointments with appropriate providers.
The acquisition builds on an existing partnership between the companies that began in 2025, when Zocdoc selected Sohar as its insurance technology provider. Sohar's platform can identify patients' insurance coverage using limited personal information, such as their name and date of birth, before verifying benefits and determining whether a healthcare provider is in-network. This reduces the need for patients to manually enter complex insurance details and helps providers avoid administrative work associated with eligibility verification.
The deal also supports Zocdoc's recently launched Care Access Network, which extends its scheduling and booking infrastructure beyond its own marketplace. Through partnerships with organizations including Amazon Health AI, Gemini, Yelp, Healthgrades and Blue Shield of California, users can access real-time appointment availability and booking across more than 200,000 providers, 200 specialties and 10,000 insurance plans. Integrating Sohar's capabilities will allow Zocdoc to offer more seamless insurance verification across this expanding partner ecosystem.
Insurance complexity remains a major obstacle to healthcare access, with patients often struggling to determine which providers accept their coverage and what services their plans include. Zocdoc aims to address this challenge at the point of booking, giving patients greater confidence that their selected provider is covered while helping healthcare organizations reduce eligibility-related administrative burdens.
Sohar Health will continue operating under its existing brand, maintaining its products and customer relationships while benefiting from Zocdoc's larger distribution network. The acquisition reflects Zocdoc's broader strategy to become a healthcare access infrastructure provider, connecting appointment discovery, insurance verification and booking across multiple digital platforms.
