
Prior to COVID-19, it was hard to imagine a public health crisis so severe that people would actively avoid emergency departments, hospitals would cancel all non-emergency medical care, and entire health systems would be forced to shift business models virtually overnight. When faced with this extraordinary situation, three nimble health systems sped up their agendas and deployed a 5 years’ worth of technology plans in a matter of weeks in order to meet the immediate needs of patients. They quickly recognized that our healthcare system will be forever altered in how we approach telemedicine, automation, how to engage and connect with patients, and most importantly how technology is applied and adopted. While the pandemic certainly tested their infrastructure and resolve to the highest degree, these healthcare leaders helped their organizations succeed through a seamless and ambitious technology-driven transition.
