Caring for Older Women in an Aging Population

About this Webinar

In the US, gender- and race- based inequities pose rising health risks for women as they age. Elderly women are more likely to be widowed, live alone, suffer from food insecurity and experience higher medical costs and out-of-pocket spending for health services. Further, with the impact of gender pay gaps and unpaid labor accumulating over decades, women suffer higher wage losses as they age compared to men. These disparities are significantly worse for Hispanic and Black women. This webinar will explore how health leaders can:

  • Recognize the health impacts of economic insecurity, gender- and race- inequities on health outcomes for elderly women
  • Improve data collection to identify the elderly women at risk as they age
  • Identify ways to streamline access to social services and benefits
  • Design healthcare programs that incorporate culturally sensitive social and caregiver supports
