Anthropic Launches Claude Science and Restores Access to Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5

Anthropic has introduced Claude Science, an AI workbench designed to support scientists throughout the research process, from literature analysis and data processing to visualization and manuscript preparation. Rather than introducing a new biological AI model, the platform operates on Anthropic’s existing Claude models, including Claude Opus 4.8, without requiring researchers to obtain special model access.

A key capability of Claude Science is its ability to present scientific artifacts—including 3D protein structures, chemical structures and molecular models—alongside the exact code and computational environment used to generate them. "This allows you to understand the inputs, making the work easier to validate and reproduce even months later. You can ask Claude Science to make edits to figures in plain language – removing gridlines, for example, or changing an axis to log scale – and the agent will edit its own code," Anthropic said in a statement.

The platform incorporates a coordinating AI agent connected to more than 60 preconfigured scientific tools and databases spanning genomics, proteomics, structural biology, cheminformatics and single-cell research. Scientists can also save custom workflows as reusable skills to streamline future projects and collaboration. Anthropic said the platform is designed to function like a research team, enabling large-scale analyses while allowing data to remain on local infrastructure or high-performance computing systems.

To improve research quality, Anthropic said, "As the pipeline runs, a reviewer agent inspects the outputs, flagging incorrect citations, untraceable numbers, and figures that don't match their underlying code, and self-correcting as it goes."

The announcement follows Anthropic’s restoration of access to Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after temporary restrictions imposed under U.S. export controls. Access was suspended after concerns arising from an Amazon research report describing methods to bypass Fable 5’s safeguards. Anthropic subsequently collaborated with Amazon and U.S. authorities to strengthen the models, including deploying an improved safety classifier and additional protective measures. Following the lifting of export controls on June 30, the company resumed global availability of Fable 5 across its platforms while restoring Mythos 5 access for an initial group of approved U.S. organizations and continuing discussions to broaden availability.
