Apple is developing a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered coaching service - code named Quartz. The new coaching service is designed to help users to stay motivated to exercise, improve their eating habits and sleep better. The service will use AI and data from the users Apple Watch to develop personalised coaching programs.
Additionally, it is reported that the Apple Health app will be getting tools for tracking emotions and managing vision conditions, such as nearsightedness. Initially, the emotion tracker will allow users to log their mood, answer questions about their day, and compare results over time. It is planned that future versions will include AI algorithms, capable of understanding the user’s mood based on their speech, text and other data.
Apple is also planning to roll out an iPad version of the iPhone health app for the first time, allowing users to see their health data on a larger screen. The hope is that the iPad version will contribute to boosting the app’s popularity in healthcare settings.
The company's upcoming mixed-reality headset is also set to play into Apple's health and wellness strategy, reportedly including a feature that will allow users to meditate while wearing the device.
Apple has further plans to extend its health push, bringing a basic form of blood pressure monitoring to its watch in the next few years. Apple is also working on non-invasive blood glucose monitoring. The technology, which has been in development for more than a decade, would take a blood sugar reading using sensors rather than a finger prick.
