Immersive therapeutics company AppliedVR, has announced that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has established a unique Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Level II code (E1905) for its the RelieVRx program.
The RelieVRx program provides an eight-week adjunctive treatment based on cognitive behavioural therapy and other evidence-based behavioural methods. It was previously the first VR-based therapeutic program to receive FDA authorisation to treat chronic lower back pain.
The coding decision categorises the RelieVRx program as a durable medical equipment (DME), making it the first immersive therapeutic or digital therapeutic to be placed in an existing benefit category. This allows the solution to have a clearer pathway for securing Medicare coverage eligibility, which can influence commercial coverage more broadly.
