Bicycle Health, the country's leading virtual opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment provider, has announced a $16.5 million funding round led by Questa Capital, with participation from existing investors and new investor JSL Health. This investment follows the company's achievement of operational profitability in 2024, demonstrating its ability to maintain sustainable growth while addressing the critical opioid epidemic.
The company's virtual care model has demonstrated significant success, serving over 40,000 patients across 49 states through partnerships with major U.S. payers. This new funding will support several strategic initiatives, including expanding partnerships with payers and health systems, growing their team of addiction medicine specialists, developing specialized programs for high-risk populations such as incarcerated individuals, and enhancing their treatment platform with new technological features.
"Our mission has always been to help as many people as possible access the treatment they need to achieve long-term recovery," said Ankit Gupta, founder and CEO of Bicycle Health. "Millions of people struggle with opioid use disorder and tens of thousands of people die from opioid use every year. Our virtual care model is proven to keep patients in treatment longer, reduce overdose rates, and improve access to treatment for people who need it. We're grateful to continue to provide lifesaving care to patients across the country, and plan to expand to more patients and families who need support in 2025."
To support its expansion plans, Bicycle Health has strengthened its executive team with two key appointments. Manu Kuppalli joins as Chief Financial Officer, bringing over a decade of healthcare finance experience, including expertise in mergers and acquisitions and investment banking. Andy Thomas takes on the role of Chief Operating Officer, contributing nearly 15 years of healthcare and behavioral health experience, particularly in developing care models for patients with complex conditions.
The company's growth comes at a crucial time as the opioid epidemic continues to present significant public health challenges in the United States. Through its clinically proven virtual care model, Bicycle Health aims to address these challenges by providing accessible and affordable treatment options, working with insurance providers to ensure broader access to care, and developing specialized programs for vulnerable populations.
